Japan Olympic Surfing venue refusing to cooperate
With fewer than three months left until the Games are set to open, the venue which is scheduled to host the upcoming Japan surfing competition is refusing to cooperate by not setting up COVID-19 testing facilities for athletes.
This is creating a few logistical problems for Japan struggling to drum up support for an already postponed Olympic games due to the pandemic.
The small town of Ichinomiya, east of Tokyo, has refused to set up COVID-19 testing facilities for athletes, citing a lack of medical facilities.
Tokyo 2020 organisers have stipulated rules requiring daily testing of athletes and restrict their use of public transportation.
Japan is currently in the middle of its COVID vaccine push, with Health Minister Norihisa Tamura confirming recently that the first doses of Moderna Inc’s vaccine had arrived in Japan.
