Construction of Japan’s first ‘Wavegarden’ wave pool to be built in Shiga Prefecture, opening in spring 2026

May 27th, 2024

Plans to build a surfing pool manufactured by Wavegarden in Japan have finally been announced. It is scheduled to open in spring 2026, and will be located in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, on the Karasuma Peninsula, which juts out into Lake Biwa.

The facility will officially be called “WAVE PARK BIWAKO”.

Located about 50 minutes by car from Kyoto Station, 75 minutes from Osaka Station and 110 minutes from Nagoya Station, the Karasuma Peninsula is a popular fishing spot and is also known as the venue for the Inazuma Rock Festival, one of the largest outdoor music events in western Japan.

This follows the recent announcement of construction of Perfect Swell Shima in Mie Prefecture. Looks like Japan is on a roll with building surf parks!
